Black. Lives. Matter.

To all of the people reading this special blog announcement.

I hope you are staying safe and well. I know this past week has been a really hard for us, as we witnessed the death of George Floyd this past Monday, in the bustling city of Minneapolis. Believe it or not, this has not been the only death of a black man by excessive force by police in 2020 alone. Breonna Taylor died by a no-knock warrant issued by the Louisville Metro Police Department, for apparently not doing anything wrong.

We are living in a time of history where there's just SO much going on. We are living in a time of a pandemic and a movement, going on simultaneously. Believe it or not, in the 21 years I've lived in this country, I have never seen both happen. However, now we know what is most important and that we must always stand.

Out of the respect of the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests happening throughout the nation, I have decided to move all my original content back a week. This means I will NOT be posting this Saturday morning. All lives matter (don't get me wrong) but ESPECIALLY black lives as well. Our fellow black brothers and sisters, present and past, have paved the way for SO many things. They were the ones to start jazz, rap, and so much more other genres in which we aren't even aware of. They were the first people who paved the way for us to be equal when we didn't have a voice yet. Therefore, we still have so much work to get done.

I am encouraging you all, rather than just post on social media as a means of a trend, to sign petitions, donate to Black causes, educate yourselves on Black history, and support Black-owned small businesses and restaurants. Because they've supported us through SO much and given us so much freedom (especially as an Asian-American who's privileged), it's time to pay back and give them the recognition they need. I am going to include nationwide and local funds and organizations you can donate to, specifically, from the San Francisco Bay Area (where I reside) and the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex (including any organizations in North Texas).

Here are some of the funds you can donate to/sign petitions:
