As we're embarking on the second week of 2024, I feel the profound impact on my personal well-being and perspective. It has been much different, and I started to discover myself, setting REALISTIC goals and intentions for myself for this year.
This sudden shift at the start of the year has allowed me to prioritize my mental and physical health, leading to increased productivity and overall happiness. Additionally, these initial weeks have brought about a deep sense of clarity, as I've really reflected on past experiences and put them into the mental void -- never to be seen again.
At the same time, it's made me realize so many things: what are the essentials that are keeping me running? Besides all the emails and notifications I get on my phone on an everyday basis....
LO AND BEHOLD.... THE JANUARY ESSENTIALS HAVE ARRIVED.
Let's take a look at my first three essentials of the month, shall we?
Essential #1: Journaling
I found that journaling really helps -- though I wasn't consistent at first, I've learned that it has been my first essential because not only does it provide a safe space for me to express myself, but it helps me process my inner thoughts and emotions and put them from thought to paper. Through journaling, I am able to unload any pent-up feelings or worries that may be weighing me down. In addition, it allows me to gain clarity and perspective on various situations, as well as track patterns or triggers that may be affecting my mental wellbeing.
Journaling also helps me set goals, reflect on my achievements, and learn from past mistakes. Moreover, the act of putting pen to paper feels absolutely therapeutic -- it really helps me to feel like it's a form of self-care that brings me peace and tranquility, despite my very busy schedule.
Essential #2: Reading.
Reading (and retaining) has been my second essential because it allows me not only to further expand my current knowledge, but also give me new ideas to come up with different blog ideas. It's like you're able to delve into different worlds, have conversations with your imaginary self, while also gaining insights from various perspectives from other characters... isn't that amazing?
It broadens my understanding of the world around me and enables me to empathize with diverse characters and their experiences. Additionally, I did realize that reading helps me improve cognitively the language skills, vocabulary, and critical thinking abilities.
Essential #3: Preparing My Students for the Royal Conservatory Exam.
Preparing my students for the Royal Conservatory Exam has been my third essential because as a music teacher -- I can see how much they've it offers them a structured and comprehensive assessment of their musical abilities. The exam not only tests their technical skills but also evaluates their understanding of music theory, ear training, sight reading, and repertoire performance. By guiding my students through the exam preparation process, I am able to ensure that they are well-rounded musicians who possess a solid foundation in all aspects of music education. Additionally, successfully completing the Royal Conservatory Exam allows my students to gain recognition and certification from a highly reputable institution, boosting their confidence and opening doors for future opportunities in their musical journey.
These three essentials collectively contribute towards my professional development as an educator and musician, ensuring a fulfilling start to the year.
